North Carolina Theatre, Broadway Series South 2013/14 Season Blends Timeless Classics, New Favorites

· CATS (October 8-13, 2013 NC Theatre Production): Since CATS first opened on the West End stage in 1981, it has become one of the world’s best-known and best-loved musicals. With a plot based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats and award-winning music composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS has since been presented in over 20 countries. A timeless musical classic, NC Theatre is thrilled to be producing this show for the first time in their history.
· Elf, The Musical (November 12-17, 2013, National Tour): Based on the hit holiday movie, ELF is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern day Christmas classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner ELF.
· We Will Rock You (December 3-8, 2013, National Tour): From London’s West End, the worldwide smash hit musical by Queen and Ben Elton comes to Raleigh for a limited engagement. We Will Rock You features the greatest hits of the legendary British rock group, Queen. Now in its 11th year in London and seen by a staggering 15 million people worldwide, this hilarious, multi-award-winning and record-breaking phenomenon boasts a fantastic score of killer Queen tunes that you just can’t resist singing along to, such as Another One Bites The Dust, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Are The Champions, Bohemian Rhapsody and of course, We Will Rock You.
· Les Misérables (February 11-23, 2014, NC Theatre Broadway Series South Co-Production): The Dream Lives!.North Carolina Theatre is honored to be doing their first-ever full production of this powerful musical phenomenon. Fresh off its recent film adaptation that won multiple academy awards, the show currently has an award-winning 25th anniversary staging in the West End and will be returning to the Broadway stage in 2014. It’s truly one of the most popular musicals of all time, with sensational music and a heart-wrenching love story.
· Driving Miss Daisy (May 2-11, 2014, NC Theatre Production): The charming, heart-warming tale of an unlikely life-changing friendship between elderly southern Jewish Matriarch, Daisy, and her chauffer. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize Award and an Academy Award-winning film, the plot explores race relations amid a backdrop of prejudice, inequality, and civil unrest within the American south in the late 1940’s. NC Theatre is proud to bring this poignantly told, sparklingly funny story to the Fletcher stage.
· Disney’s Little Mermaid (July 29-August 30, 2014, NC Theatre Production): Disney’s under-the-sea spectacular hits the stage! Based on the classic Disney animated feature, The Little Mermaid is a splashy extravaganza. Prepare to be swept away by the classic songs you remember, and delighted by new ones written by Oscar-winning Disney tunesmith Alan Menken. The show is spectacular fun for the whole family.
