nextradioFebruary 1, 2016 – College students nationwide can create and submit a sixty second radio spot promoting NextRadio, the free app that allows listeners to experience live, local FM radio on their smartphone.

NextRadio and Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) have teamed up in search of the best radio spot showcasing the FM Chip in smartphones. Entrants will get valuable experience creating a spot and the winner will get incredible exposure for themselves and the spot they created. “We are pleased to work with IBS to get college students involved and informed about FM Chips in smartphones. College students are perfect ambassadors to develop a NextRadio app message that outlines how radio and digital come together. This is a great opportunity for a student to have their radio spot played nationally on thousands of broadcast stations and heard by millions,” said Paul Brenner, President NextRadio.

The NextRadio app lets listeners experience FM radio on their smartphone in a brand new way. It allows users to get a real-time view of what’s playing on-air and interact live with their favorite local radio stations while using 3x less battery and 20x less data compared to streaming radio apps.

“What an incredible opportunity NextRadio is providing our students: a chance to attend the nation’s premier college radio conference is one thing, but to be able to have their spot played for millions of listeners nationwide is simply phenomenal. The Intercollegiate Broadcast System is proud to team up with NextRadio to offer this experience of a lifetime,” said Chris Thomas, President IBS.

The contest is designed to offer college students an opportunity to conceive, create, and submit a commercial radio spot and compete within a real world context. Learning by doing is essential to the student media experience and by partnering on this contest NextRadio and IBS are providing students from coast to coast a chance for professional development that extends well beyond the confines of a college campus.

The contest will run from February 1 – February 12, 2016. Winners will be announced on February 22, 2016. The first place winner will have their sixty second radio spot included in the 2016 flight two of the NextRadio National Awareness Campaign starting March 1, 2016. In addition to having their radio spot played on-air across the country, the winner will win one (1) IBS Conference registration in New York, NY from March 4-5, 2016, a three (3) night hotel stay at Hotel Pennsylvania from March 3-6, 2016, airfare travel to the conference (up to $500 value), $200 Visa gift card and recognition during the IBS conference. Students need to submit their radio spot through the submission process at www.nextradioapp.com/collegecontest.
